Clutter
in your life can be a roadblock and hold you back from accomplishing certain
goals in a timely manner. Here are a few tips on organizing and simplifying
your life:
-
Clear your mind. Learn to let go of those thoughts and things in your life that
are burdensome and counterproductive. It may be hard to make changes, but
focusing on the healthy relationships and situations that make you happy will
make a big difference in how you feel.
-
Eliminate old and unused items from every room often. Take note of the items
that go unused for a certain amount of time and get rid of them. Check
expiration dates on perishable items, such as medicines. If you can’t remember
when you purchased an item, it’s probably best to throw it out.
-
Clean out your closets in all rooms. Determine what you want to keep, what you
want to donate, and what you want to discard. Make sure you have storage boxes,
organizing bins and plastic garbage bags for the items.
-
De-clutter your desk and work space. It’s difficult to be productive in a space
that is not functional for you. To organize your desk, create three
piles—materials to keep, materials to shred and materials to throw away. You
can use this same strategy for your shelves and filing cabinets.
-
Read email and snail mail on a regular basis. Instead of checking email every
time you receive a new one in your inbox, read your emails on a regular basis
just two or three times a day. When you open an email, try to answer it at that
time rather than saving it for later. Create a specific time and place to read
your snail mail regularly. Decide what you want to do with the mail at that
moment, whether it’s filing bills, shredding mail, or throwing mail away.
The less physical and mental clutter you have, the more organized you can be.
An organized lifestyle will alleviate the stress in your life and motivate you
to perform tasks more efficiently.
