Preparing Your Home for Spring

Preparing Your Home for Spring Spring is in the air, which means that longer days and warmer nights are on the horizon. March 20th marks the first day of spring, so now is a good time to start preparing your home for springtime. This season is all about making your surroundings lighter and brighter, so here are ways you can renew your home in preparation for spring:

  1. Make a list of the projects you want to tackle. Prioritize them so you can take care of the more important projects first. Also, take an inventory of the supplies you will need for organizing and cleaning so you’ll know exactly what you need and about how much you should spend when you make a trip to the store.

  2. Be a dust-buster. It’s better to dust surface areas that are higher up in rooms before dusting areas low to the ground or cleaning the floors to avoid the spread of dust on to lower areas or flooring you just cleaned. Ceiling fans and shelves are good items to start on.

  3. Take advantage of your vacuum’s attachments. Use your vacuum’s attachments to clean blinds, lamp shades, mattresses, vents, and other hard-to-reach areas. You’ll be able to pick up more dust and dirt in less time when using one of the attachments instead of the vacuum itself.

  4. Clean the windows and doors both inside and outside. Dust, dirt, leaves, bugs—you name it—get trapped in between the screen and glass and near the panels. Wiping down the windows and doors on the interior and exterior can make these elements look as good as new.

  5. Create more open and airy spaces. One way you can do this is by removing or swapping any heavy, dark rugs and drapery. Reorganize the furniture in your rooms and exchange bulky couch pillows with pillows made with a lighter fabric. Redecorate with colors and textures that are suggestive of springtime.

  6. Clean out your winter wardrobe and coat closet. Donate any items that you did not wear during the winter season. Cleaning out your closets will create more space for spring wardrobe items and will give you more space to move around in as well.

  7. Rejuvenate your deck or screened-in porch by scrubbing weathered surfaces and any furniture. Clean out old pots with dead plants or unhealthy soil. Start thinking about ways you can add life back into these outdoor areas.
Preparing your home for spring is not just about cleaning and decorating, it’s also about celebrating a season of renewal!
