Getting Physically Fit

Physically Fit April is National Physical Wellness Month, so now is the time to think about your physical well-being and how you can become more physically fit. Exercise comes in many forms, and now that it’s springtime, there are more outdoor activities that you can consider. Physical wellness contributes to your overall health, so it’s important to incorporate some form of physical activity into your daily routine, whether it’s playing tennis, walking the dog, or lifting weights. Here are just some ways to practice physical fitness and boost physical wellness:

  1. Take a walk every day. This can be a 10-, 30-, or 45-minute walk. Walking for any length of time every day will benefit you. Add variety by taking a walk at different times of the day, such as during your lunch break. Take the steps instead of the elevator. Park farther away. There are many easy ways to add physical activity into your day.

  2. Consider outdoor activities such as yard work, biking, golf, or rollerblading. These are just a small sampling of the many outdoor activities that you can do to get your heart rate up and improve your physical wellness.

  3. Team up with a buddy or take a class. Having an exercise partner or being in a class can increase your motivation and inspire a positive outlook. Plus, you may be more adventurous and willing to try new activities with a friend or group.

  4. Diversify your routine, and choose activities that you enjoy. Doing so will help to prevent burn-out and accelerate progress.

  5. Entertain a new fitness trend. With there being differences in body types, personalities, and schedules, one of these fitness crazes may peak your interest: boot camp, dance workouts, interval training, Pilates, yoga, stability ball workouts, CrossFit, and active gaming.

  6. Take steps to prevent injury. Before you start any exercise regimen, talk with your doctor about the physical activities most suitable for your needs and goals.
The benefits of being physically fit are many and well worth your efforts. Even a little bit of effort every day can make a big difference over time. Getting and staying physically fit can easily be something you look forward to in your daily routine, especially when you find activities you enjoy!
