Katie, a teen from the Madison, Wisconsin area,
loves Applebee’s, Blizzards from Dairy Queen, country music, computer games and
Yorkshire Terriers. Another thing about Katie is she suffers from Hodgkin’s
Lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system.
Katie really wanted to design her own computer, so American Equity Mortgage
partnered with the Make-A-Wish foundation and made Katie’s wish come true!
Katie was able to pick out everything about her computer and have it customized
just for her with games and the programs she wanted. The computer will help
make her hospital visits and treatments more tolerable and less boring, which
will help pass the time and raise Katie’s spirits.
Shortly after the wish was granted, we received these kind words from Katie’s
parents, “We just wanted to connect with you, and once again extend our
deepest appreciation for what AEM has done for our daughter Katie. You have
made Katie a very happy girl, and as we head into the hospital tomorrow for a
six week stay, I know that Katie’s computer and sling box will provide constant
enjoyment for her! Thank you for bringing sunshine into her life and giving her
so many reasons to smile, despite the circumstances of having to fight the
battle with cancer. We are humbled and honored to be blessed beyond measure!
”
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Katie lost her battle with cancer on
April 9, 2008. We were truly honored to have been able to bring some happiness
to this wonderful girl, and we are deeply saddened to hear of her passing. Our
thoughts go out to her family and thank you for giving us the opportunity to be
a part of her life.
American Equity Mortgage is proud to have helped the Make-A-Wish foundation
make Katie’s wish come true.
