From
his home in St. Louis, Missouri, 18 year old Christopher keeps track of how the
Manchester United Soccer Team is playing. From the players to team history,
Christopher loves soccer and the Manchester United team as a whole.
Unfortunately, he has to deal with battling Osteosarcoma, a type of bone
cancer, as he enjoys keeping up with his favorite sport.
When Christopher was asked what he wished for, it came as no surprise that he
wanted to travel to Manchester, England to meet the Manchester United Soccer
eam he admires so much. American Equity Mortgage worked with the Make-A-Wish
foundation to help make Christopher’s wish come true!
A wish granting celebration was thrown for Christopher at the annual
Make-A-Wish hot air balloon glow on a brisk, fall night. Christopher and his
family were able to meet several employees from American Equity Mortgage as
balloons glowed around them, struggling to stay inflated in the strong wind.
Vince Kruse, a Loan Officer in St. Louis, commented on being a part of the
event, “It was really exciting to be a part of the Make-A-Wish celebration!
Despite the cold weather, we were really able to connect with the family
and enjoy our evening.”
The family was sincerely appreciative of the
wish, and explained that the wish granting couldn’t have happened at a
better time since the day before the party, Christopher found out his cancer
had spread. This trip will help the family come together and forget about cancer,
hospitals and chemotherapy for a week while they take in the sights and sounds
of England. Hopefully Christopher returns strong and ready to fight against
cancer one more time.
We are deeply saddened to announce Christopher lost his battle with cancer on
May 16, 2009. We were truly honored to have been able to know Christopher and
his family, and hope the memories from their trip to England will help ease the
intense pain of his death.
American Equity Mortgage is proud to have helped the Make-A-Wish foundation
make Christopher’s wish come true.
