Abby, a seven year old who lives in Atlanta,
Georgia with her family, has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic
Fibrosis is a hereditary disease that affects the exocrine glands of the lungs,
liver, pancreas, and intestines, causing progressive disability and possibly
multi-system failure. Although Abby has such a serious illness, she still
enjoys games, television and music that most other young girls enjoy. Her
favorite thing to do is take horseback riding lessons at a local stable, and
Abby spends as much time as she can there.
When Abby learned she would be granted a wish, it didn’t take long for her to
wish for a horse of her very own! American Equity Mortgage teamed up with the
Make-A-Wish foundation and made Abby’s wish come true!
On a beautiful, fall day, a wish party was held where Abby met her new horse,
Muffin. Muffin is a 3.5 year old, chestnut and white pinto, Welsh pony mare and
was chosen especially for Abby. When Abby arrived at the stable, she was overcome
with excitement and couldn’t believe Muffin was hers. Abby’s
mother commented, “We had such an incredible experience. We are still
walking on cloud nine around here .”
For Abby, having her own horse gives her a sense of pride, and the bond her and
Muffin will have will be something for Abby to carry with her for the rest of
her life. For Abby’s family, having this horse helps their little girl forget
about her treatments and her illness and get out and enjoy what life has to
offer.
American Equity Mortgage is proud to have helped the Make-A-Wish foundation
make Abby’s wish come true.
