The downturn of the economy has led many families to abandon their pets because they are no longer able to pay for the food and care the pet requires. Unfortunately, these pets don’t know how to survive on their own and they become sick, injured or emaciated very quickly.
The abandoned pets in St. Louis, Missouri are often rescued by Stray Rescue St. Louis, a group whose purpose is to rescue stray animals who are in need of medical attention, restore them to health and then find them forever homes. Stray Rescue finds animals who have been let loose on highways, remote roads, abandoned in parks, empty houses or even some who have been left chained to a tree after their family moved away.
When American Equity Mortgage heard about the work
Stray Rescue St. Louis does, we knew we wanted to help in some way, so we organized a supply drive to collect items needed to care for the animals.
Donations came in all forms and we collected countless leashes, collars, bowls, dog treats, toys, cat litter, towels, blankets, cleaning supplies, crates, carriers, beds and more! We even collected over 300 pounds of highquality pet food, most of which will be used to leave out for the dogs that are too scared to be rescued just yet.
“Helping animals is always a gratifying experience, and it is made even more so when we are helping support a cause like Stray Rescue St. Louis,” Casey Holt, manager of a branch office in St. Louis, commented.
At American Equity Mortgage, we understand the importance of giving back to the communities we serve, and we are proud to have helped the many pets who are waiting for a home of their own.
