AEM Goes Pink and Races for the Cure
Downtown St. Louis, Missouri was packed to the brink in pink on June 21, 2008, to support the tenth annual Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure! The nearly 64,000 participants, 4,000 of which are breast cancer survivors, raised over $3.3 million, the most ever raised in the history of the Komen races to date! Funds raised go to benefit breast cancer education programs, screening, treatment and support for victims and families.

The 5k race was kicked off when the 4,000 survivors, all dressed in customary survivor pink, started the procession of survivors. Once the initial procession was completed, the actual races started followed by the walk, which was a great way for families and friends to come together and show support for the cause. Many honored victims by wearing name badges on their shirts.

American Equity Mortgage was pleased to have a part in this year’s Race for the Cure too by sponsoring local radio station broadcasts of the massive event. American Equity employees proudly volunteered at the race as well, and were on hand passing out pink balloons to participants as they raced towards the finish line.

Although this race marks the tenth annual Komen Race for the Cure held in St. Louis, Missouri, there are Komen races held each year nationwide. 2008 is the 25th anniversary of the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure, which is the largest of the 5k walks/ runs in the world with over 1 million participants since 2005!
