In April, American Equity Mortgage once again invited the children of employees to work in honor of the national program, "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day." This is American Equity's fourth year sponsoring the program.
The American Equity version is not your ordinary program where the child sits beside his or her parent during the day. Staff at AEM work hard to ensure the children will receive valuable lessons. "It is important for kids to get a feel for what their parent does every day and how they contribute to our organization. I also hope that it gives children an idea of the opportunities that the workplace holds and reinforces the importance of their education," said Jeannine Beck, Community Relations Manager.
This year, children participated and learned about starting and maintaining an environmentally friendly business. The children ran a fictitious company, Global Bazaar, throughout the day and learned about various aspects of running a business, such as budgeting, marketing, product design and presentation and finally, selling the products, which were decorative flower pots, flowers and sweet treats.
The children set up shop in the lobby of the Corporate Office in St. Louis, Missouri, and sold the products to employees in the building. It was a very successful business venture because every single item sold out in record time!
